How I Style A Black Lace Dress

I realise that I'm probably getting a bit late with a Summer fashion post as everyone's more than likely thinking about getting their Autumn coats! But do you know what? It's not very often that I find a spaghetti strap dress that I not only love, but also feel confident enough to wear and have my photo taken wearing it.
The little black dress has been a wardrobe staple for years and believe me, I've had my fair share of them. I think it's one of the easiest pieces to style, whatever the season or occasion. It's the first thing I grab for a last minute party invite, chuck on a statement necklace and a pair of heels and I'm good to go!
But black lace in Summer? That's a different story.

If you know me by now then you'll know how much I love florals or light colours and I would normally associate a lace dress with the party season, especially black. I know white lace has been everywhere this season but when I came across this cute little black number I just had to snap it up. I'm normally really self conscious of the tops of my arms but from the moment I tried this dress on it felt so right and I actually felt good about myself. I wasn't trying to be anyone else or who I thought I should be. I was just me. Out for a stroll in town doing a spot of shopping and stopping off for a coffee. So I thought why not make the most of it and take a few outfit of the day photos for my blog.

Then of course that brings me to another problem. Where to take the photos? I didn't want just another bench in front of yet another hedge. I might as well have done them in my garden. Not being able to stand in front of the all important white wall can be a challenge but while out one Saturday afternoon I was in a street that I had been down a thousand times before (OK, slight exaggeration, haha) and there right at the end of it was this gorgeous bakery with a bench right outside. Yay, I could do the street scene! Do know how good that made me feel.

Anyway, back to the dress.
It's a gorgeous black lace knee length dress with spaghetti straps and has a sweetheart neck. Around the edge of the neckline there is a delicate lace frill which adds a bit of extra detail and underneath it has a satin slip. I like the fact that it has an elasticated waist so it gives some shape to the dress, rather than hanging straight down.
I think it's going to be one those versatile items that I can wear in Summer or Winter and get a lot more wear out of than just a New Years Eve party.

I've also mentioned before that I have a bit of an addiction for hats and today seemed the perfect opportunity to dig out another of my favourites to wear in the hot weather. I think a hat can add a bit of interest to your outfit and I love having fun playing around with different styles. This panama hat is actually meant for a man but I think mixing a masculine accessory with my feminine style dress works really well. I also wanted a bag that didn't look out of place, so a big tote bag wasn't an option. I decided on a straw shopper with long handles so it was big enough to fit all of my junk in and maybe the odd little purchase too!
Add a pair of wedge espadrilles and my sunglasses and I had my perfect summer outfit. It kind of gives me that feeling that I'm on holiday exploring quaint little streets abroad somewhere, when in fact it was only 10 minutes down the road from where i live.

To complete my look, I popped on my favourite watch, a pair of rose gold earrings and a bright pink lip gloss.

Thanks for reading this post. What's you favourite summer accessory?
